REACH Regulation
SVHC substances and REACH Annex XIV

Authorization and obligations
Sunset date and safer alternatives
A substance subject to authorization may not be used after its sunset date unless an authorization for the specific use has been granted by the European Commission. It is worth noting, however, that the authorization process can be lengthy and costly. Where possible, therefore, manufacturers should consider developing and using safer alternatives.
It is also important to note that an authorization granted for a specific use may be relied upon by downstream users further along the supply chain. In such cases, the downstream user must notify the Agency of the use within three months of the first supply of the substance.
