According to the CLP Regulation, if a manufactured or imported mixture is classified as hazardous, the manufacturer or importer must submit a poison centre notification (PCN) to each Member State in which the mixture is placed on the market, thereby improving its traceability. This means that if a given mixture is placed on the market in three different Member States, three separate poison center notifications are required.
As part of the poison centre notification, the manufacturer’s or importer’s details and the safety data sheet of the mixture, among other information, must be provided in a language accepted by the respective Member State. Following the notification, the mixture is assigned a UFI code (Unique Formula Identifier), which serves as a unique identifier for the hazardous mixture and must also be indicated on the safety data sheet of the mixture once it has been placed on the market. The UFI code helps poison centres clearly and unambiguously identify the mixture.
